Considered by Martha Stewart to be the creators of some of America’s “Most Beautiful Wedding Cakes”, Honey Crumb Cake Studio is a boutique bakery based in Seattle, Washington. We are a woman-owned and women-staffed business. We are committed to elevating the standards of our industry through networking, mentoring, and leading by example. Everyone in our team is encouraged to learn and soar, working flexibly with a high degree of autonomy and creative license. Our cake artistry has been featured in industry-leading magazines, including BRIDES, Magnolia Rouge, Seattle Bride, Gay Weddings Magazine, and TrendyBride Carla launched her cake business as Honey Crumb Cake Studio in 2010, developing personalized, sculptural cakes that stood in stark relief against the generic cakes that were being pumped out by assembly-line bakers elsewhere. Carla was aware that cost considerations and time constraints prohibited “industrial” bakers from sourcing luxurious raw materials or dreaming up truly show-stopping edible centerpieces — and she resolved to distinguish herself from them. She knew that her customers deserved better: more ethical ingredients, and more artful concepts. Today, out of the Lower Queen Anne headquarters of Honey Crumb LLC, Carla still collaborates personally with clients to create bold, breathtakingly unique works of cake art by hand, using detailed digital renderings and farm-to-table products to craft confections of creative exuberance and structural integrity. Carla has studied under current and former legends in the confectionary arts, including Maggie Austin and Kaysie Lackey, and has taken classes in such dignified settings as the French Pastry School in Chicago. However, she remains a largely self-taught explorer of new techniques and media in the world of cake design, drawing inspiration from artists whose work is whimsical, nature-inspired, and trend-setting — like paper artist & muralist Josephine Rice, or the South African multi-media artist Norman Catherine, and the late designer Alexander McQueen.

CURBSIDE STORE ABOUT SUGAR FLOWERS: Handcrafted Sugar Flowers All of our sugar flowers are made in house, one petal at a time. Each year, we spend countless hours researching flowers and developing our skills — and we love to share our knowledge via our sugar flower workshops. Our goal is not to compete with nature, but to celebrate its beauty and produce breathtaking adornments for our cakes. In choosing sugar flowers for your cake, you are supporting us as artisans in our quest to keep this remarkable art form alive and thriving. Advantages of Sugar Flowers Flexibility — Using sugar, we can make absolutely any type of flower, in any color, at any time of year. There are no seasonal restrictions! Durability — Sugar flowers don’t wilt. In contrast, fresh flowers are on borrowed time once they’re inserted into your cake, and can droop and even turn brown by the time your cake-cutting photos are taken. Sentimental Value — Sugar flowers can be kept for years as a treasured memento. Many of our clients choose to keep their sugar flowers in a glass shadow box or under a cloche, which makes for an exquisite display in their home. Timelessness — Depending on which historical accounts you read, sugar flowers date back to the 16th century, and were popularized in 18th-century France (where they were used to decorate the desserts of the royal court). Sugar flowers are as timeless as it gets. You can’t say that about any other cake decorating trends! Safety — Sugar flowers are made from gum paste, which contains sugar and vegetable gum (e.g. tylose). They are completely safe to come into contact with food. In contrast, fresh flowers are contaminated with pesticide/herbicide residues and preservatives, not to mention dirt and bugs! Some of the most popular fresh flowers requested for wedding cake decoration are inedible — indeed, some are even poisonous. With sugar flowers, there is no such risk.

PRICING We have a range of different options to suit most budgets, from simple single-tiered cakes, to two-tiered “cutting” cakes, to completely custom-designed edible masterpieces. If you need more specific info about pricing, please ask us! Custom Designs CUSTOM CAKES include our more intricate wedding cakes, as well as themed/sculpted cakes and corporate cakes. Because these cakes are designed specifically for you (the client), and require a high level of skill to create, they are priced accordingly. Pricing starts at $12/serving, and more detailed cakes are priced between $15-$25 per serving (depending on the complexity of the artwork involved). There are exceptions, but in general, we do not make custom cakes to serve fewer than 25-30 people. For events between October 1st and April 30th, our minimum order for any custom-designed cake is $500. For events during wedding season (May 1st through September 30th), our minimum may increase to $1,000 — depending on the demand for your particular date. If your venue is more than 50 miles away from our cake studio (one-way), or the cake delivery involves a ferry trip, our peak-season minimum order is $1,500 (not including the delivery fee). After a design consultation, either over email or in person, we will give you a quote for your custom cake. Catalog Designs PETITE CAKES are pre-designed single-tiered cakes, starting at $120. These cakes are available to order with three business days’ notice, and cannot be customized beyond the options presented in the catalog. Once you’ve looked through the catalog and have chosen your design, you can order your Petite Cake through our dedicated online form. CLASSIC CAKES are pre-designed multi-tiered cakes that start at $300. These cakes are available to order at relatively short notice (1-2 weeks usually will do), and we offer limited options for customization. Order your Classic Cake by sending an inquiry through our contact form. “Cutting” Cakes Two-tiered “cutting” cakes start at $300 for 35 servings. (Larger sizes available.) PICKUP ONLY. Supplemental kitchen cakes, starting at $175, are available to provide additional servings for your guests. View our design options and pricing for “cutting” cakes here. Sugar Flowers Most of our clients choose between one and three clusters of sugar flowers for their cake. Smaller two-tiered cakes look best with one cluster, while larger multi-tiered cakes benefit from a few more clusters to create a balanced look. Each cluster typically includes 3 focal flowers, with optional foliage; price range: $120-$220. Some sugar flowers look absolutely stunning on their own, and we don’t always combine them into a cluster. Single large flowers with big impact include the peony, dahlia, succulent, magnolia, ranunculus, garden rose, hellebore, or orchid; price range: $40-$80 (depending on size and petal count). Smaller sugar flowers (e.g. bougainvillea, hydrangea, sweet pea, rosebud, plumeria) are typically arranged into bunches of three to five. These can stand alone on a cake, for a delicate look, or be added to other clusters (see above) for visual interest. Price range: $20-$60 per bunch. We are always happy to advise you on the optimal combination and placement of sugar flowers within your intended budget. Delivery Not all cakes can be delivered personally by us. Our ability to deliver your cake depends on the size of the cake, and on the distance to your venue. Typically, delivery and setup by a member of our team is available for stacked cakes of three tiers or more, or sculpted/novelty cakes to serve more than 50 guests. Our standard delivery range is within one hour of downtown Seattle (one-way). Our availability to deliver cakes to venues beyond this radius is determined on a case-by-case basis. Our delivery fee within Seattle city limits is $80. For venues outside the city, the delivery fee is based on distance from our studio, calculated using Google Maps. Some cakes require more intricate setup/assembly on site, which may add to the delivery fee. We will discuss this with you during the design phase. All Petite Cake orders, and all two-tiered cakes, are PICKUP ONLY. In these instances, the cake is carefully packaged by us, and we provide thorough instructions for handling and transporting the cake. Gluten-Aware / Vegan Cakes An additional fee of $2/serving is applied to all vegan or gluten-aware cake orders. PLEASE NOTE: All of our baked products may come into contact with WHEAT, EGGS, PEANUTS, TREE NUTS, and MILK. Our gluten-aware, lactose-aware and vegan cakes are baked separately with great care, using sanitized equipment, but we cannot guarantee that they will be free from all traces of the aforementioned allergens. For more information, please ask us! Tastings We have two options for tastings: (1) In-person consultations, or (2) Tasting Kits (for pickup). Tasting: We offer two options for cake tastings: 1) In-person appointments (intended for clients seeking a completely custom-designed cake, e.g. custom wedding cakes, corporate cakes, or novelty/sculpted cakes) 2) Tasting Kits for pickup (intended for clients seeking a catalog cake, such as our Classic Cakes or Petite Cakes) Honey Crumb Tasting Room IN-PERSON CONSULTATIONS [currently unavailable due to COVID-19] In-person tasting appointments are scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays between 12 noon and 6pm. We typically do not schedule in-person appointments on weekends, unless circumstances are exceptional, as we are preoccupied with completing and delivering our wedding cake orders on those days. The consultation fee is $75, which includes a tasting of three flavors of your choice from our menu. You may add extra flavors for $25 each. We provide enough cake to serve up to 4 people in total. Surcharges apply if you would like to have more than 4 people total (including yourself) at the tasting. We’ve found that the most successful consultations involve the fewest stakeholders — i.e. just the couple, plus their planner or a mother or a maid of honor / best man. “Many cooks spoil the broth,” as they say. (You are welcome to take home any extra cake from your tasting to enjoy later or share with other family members and friends.) In-person appointments are best for clients who are planning to order a completely unique and custom cake, which needs to be designed from scratch, rather than being chosen from one of our pre-designed collections. This collaborative design time is invaluable and allows us to get to know you and your style before we produce a sketch and quote for your custom cake. Our tasting room and cake studio are located in lower Queen Anne, at 177 Western Ave W, Suite 268-A, Seattle, WA 98119. Honey Crumb cake tasting Please note: We typically like to have access to as many design references from you as possible. Your color palette, invitations, floral design concept, event lighting, etc, are all reviewed during the cake design appointment. Ideally, we would have information about logistics as well (e.g. reception start time, time frame for vendor setup at your venue, etc). Please come prepared for your appointment, so that we can make the most of the time we have together. If your tasting appointment is scheduled at a time when you haven’t yet made major design decisions for the look and feel of your event, it can be challenging for us to achieve a well-developed cake design concept. Connect with us and we’ll help determine the optimal time frame within which your cake consultation should take place. CONTACT US TO SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT To-go Cake Samples.jpeg TASTINGS “TO GO” Sample our cakes at your leisure with a Honey Crumb Tasting Kit. Connect with us and we’ll prepare a kit for you to pick up on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, with three business days’ notice. Once you’ve enjoyed the samples, we’ll finalize your cake order via email or phone. We offer two different tasting kits: CHEF’S CHOICE: A selection of 3 cake samples, based on whatever’s fresh from our ovens that particular day — for a fee of $40. (Needless to say, chef’s choice flavors are not disclosed prior to pickup!) CUSTOM KIT: Your own selection of any cake flavors from our menu — as many as you want — for $20 per sample. Our cake samples are presented as 9oz cups with lids, containing two layers of cake and two layers of buttercream. We use the same ratio of cake-to-filling inside the cake cups that will be built into each tier of your custom cake. (Our finished cake tiers each have four layers of cake with a ratio of roughly one-quarter filling/frosting to three-quarters cake.)
CAKE MENU: Our commercial kitchen in lower Queen Anne is fully licensed and insured, and we are proud to carry an “Excellent” Food Safety Rating from King County Public Health. We make all our cake batters, ganache, fruit curds, compotes, syrups, caramel sauce, and Swiss meringue buttercream entirely from scratch.
