About: Dream Cakes has been one of Portland’s most celebrated custom wedding cake companies since 1994. Back then, this small bakery was owned & operated solely by Judy Reese for 20 years, she retired in 2014. Judy’s replacement, Johannah, trained for over a year, learning every recipe and technique Judy had to offer. Both Judy and Johannah envisioned that Dream Cakes would serve the local Portland area for many generations and weddings to come. Dream Cakes is far from a factory production bakery. We strongly believe in quality over quantity. Every ounce of our time, love & care goes into making each individual cake because we want to ensure that we create the wedding cake of your dreams. At our bakery, everything is made from scratch with local ingredients and nothing is ever frozen. Our goal is to destroy the stigma that wedding cake is bad. About the baker: Johannah is originally from Reno, Nevada where at age four, she baked her first batch of cookies with her great-grandma. From the first bake, she was hooked on life in the kitchen. In 2008, she moved to Portland with her best friend and attended Oregon Culinary Institute where she graduated with degrees in both the baking and culinary programs. Since graduating, she has worked as the lead production baker at Black Sheep Bakery and helped open Bushel & Peck Bakeshop in Northeast Portland. She has served as the pastry and line cook at Natural Selection, one of Portland’s finest vegetarian restaurants; worked at St. Cupcake, QUIN candy company, Ken’s Artisan Pizza & GEM gluten-free bakery. Johannah has also had the pleasure of wholesaling her vegan cakes to the Lightning Bar Collective since 2010. For Johannah cake is more than just a creative outlet, it’s her contribution to society. She believes that cake is a major part of both our past and future memories, starting with flavors from our childhood, to feeding that very first slice of wedding cake to your loved one. Hence her commitment to creating something that tastes as good as it looks, she’s here to create great memories… so for Pete’s sake don’t skip the cake (as her grandma would say)!
