Our History Edible Art Bakery & Dessert Cafe grew from the old Southern pound cake recipes of eastern North Carolina native Judy Lasater. Mrs. Lasater began making cakes using her mother’s recipes in the 1950’s. In 1982, Mrs. Lasater partnered with her daughter Beth Pendergrass and formed what is now Edible Art Bakery and Dessert Cafe. The mother-daughter team embarked on a grassroots, door-to-door effort, introducing individuals and businesses to the distinctive Edible Art taste. Our bakery was quickly recognized for superior taste and artistry throughout North Carolina. Ultimately, Edible Art became a known brand throughout the Southeastern United States and all along the Eastern seaboard. We have always prided ourselves on maintaining the integrity of our products by using high quality, natural ingredients, and by continuing the seldom seen tradition of scratch baking. We Don’t Mind Being Old! Sure it may sound weird, but we’re thrilled to be 39 years old! As the Triangle area’s oldest dessert bakery we’ve had the opportunity to serve generations, and we love it! In our 39 years, we’ve perfected recipes, including our well-known pound cake, found the world’s best staff, and built the most wonderful customer base imaginable. For us, getting older has only meant getting better. Made From Scratch “Scratch” is a dirty word to most bakeries, but it’s just how we operate. Every birthday cake, wedding cake, pie, and cookie is made from scratch. Scratch bakeries are hard to come by in a world where cutting corners to save time and money reigns supreme. Our philosophy has always been that taste and the quality of ingredients we serve our customers should not be sacrificed for any reason.
